So how did the daughter do on her first day of school? The easiest way to answer is to say that when she came home, she wanted to play kindergarten in her room. A great day all around. There were a few small complaints ("Oh, it was hot at recess"), but the main thing is that she's looking forward to tomorrow and is excited about school.
I was so proud of her that I let her pick what we did this evening. She wanted to go fishing, so fish we did. While Canadian bacon didn't work as well as our traditional Oscar Mayer center-cut bacon, we still caught two nice little perch at the pond near our house. And though it was an honest-to-goodness school night, it sure felt like summer, if only for a little while longer.

I did not realize that checking this blog had become a significant step in my morning routine until I found no new entry for today. Must we stay in suspense to see how Day 2 progressed? My coffee has brewed, my poptart has popped, and I am prepared to share in a touch of instant nostalgia.
In the meantime, I am intrigued by the photo. Is there a special significance to Tom Jones? I would be interested in knowing how the selection process proceeded - what titles were considered and discarded before TJ was honored?
Let it be said that k1p2 is my new best friend. Hooray for the first unsolicited comment.
Please forgive my lapse as of late--just busy, busy, busy--with the kiddo's first soccer practice tonight. But more posts to come, I promise.
As for Tom Jones, it is simply hands-down my favorite novel--and it is, after all, about the "education" of a foundling.
